Here are some helpful tips on how to handle a few very common orthodontic emergencies before you can come see us:
If a bracket has become loose or fallen out, it will need to be repaired by Dr. Mason. If you need to cut a wire, use fingernail clippers that have been sanitized with alcohol.
If a wire is causing you discomfort and irritation, first try to move the wire away from the area using an eraser or piece of cotton. If it will not move, you can also cover the end of the wire with either cotton or dental wax.
If your problem is a lost separator, don’t worry, this is very common! However, please call our office and check to see if you’ll need a replacement.
If you experience any discomfort or tenderness after the application of braces(or a routine adjustment), this is perfectly normal. You can help lessen the pain by taking a non-aspirin pain reliever or by rinsing your mouth with warm salt water several times a day. It is common for patients to feel a little sensitivity after getting braces for the first 1-2 weeks.
